The local club has been in existence for over 90 years but this is the first year they've chosen to sponsor competitive league play outside of its own membership.

The plan is to have two, short (7 wk) sessions over the summer (Wednesdays., May 27 thru July 8; 2nd session, July 29 thru Sept 9). Play begins at 6:30pm.  Check The Calendar for the latest schedule and updates as well as the League Blog.

What should I expect?

Games last around 1.5 to 2 hrs. All equipment will be supplied. Just wear flat soled shoes.

A team is responsible for fielding two players each week; you can bring in a substitute if you like. Failure to have two players by the start of play constitutes a forfeit.

Play will be based on a round robin approach. Depending on the number of teams registering, there could be two groups of six teams each during any given session. Frankly, very few of this season's league players will have played the game so you have a fair chance of winning the title of “Cincinnati's Best Lawn Bowling Team”. Neat!

Besides getting to learn and play a new sport, 75% of the registration fees will be re-distributed as prize money. Not a bad deal!

Registration & Fees: A team is registered when its non-refundable $25 fee has been received (this covers just one session). The green can only handle 12 teams at a time so after those slots are filled, you go on a waiting list. Registration fees should be received by the Saturday before week 1 of each session. Each player is to pay $5/wk for greens fees; the team captain is responsible for paying for his/her team prior to start of that night's match. Members of the Cincinnati Lawn Bowling Club will receive a $2/wk discount on greens fees.

Food & Drink: The Hamilton County Parks Bd. is going to have their food and beverage cart come around a couple of times each evening. There are also several good pubs nearby; you might want to visit them before or after your match.

Session Dates, Times, & Activities: Each session will consist of 7 dates of play. The first night is introductory where most of you will learn the game from regular club members, and get in some play via friendly games. Weeks 2-6 count toward the session's championship, the 7th night will be mostly a social event with special activities/ prizes planned.

Team Rankings: Each week, team captains are to report to the league secretary the results of that evening's play. You are to let the secretary know who won and what the scores were. Winning teams receive one point while the losing team receives none. End of the season ties will be broken with the team having the greatest scoring differential (points earned during all the games minus points allowed) being declared the winner.

The “Lawn Bowling Champions of the Tri-State” will be determined as soon as possible after the 2nd summer session once its winner is determined and a roll-off occurs.

Prizes & Awards: 75% of a session's registration fees will be distributed to 2/3rds of the teams. Since the league doesn't know at this time how many teams will participate, it can only speculate that an approximate breakout will be: 1st place - 25%, 2nd place - 20%, 3rd place - 15%, 4th place - 12.5%, 5th place - 10%; 6th place - 7.5%, 7th & 8th - 5% each.
